Let’s be honest, this isn’t a good hair day for anyone. Even Einstein’s kids would have called a hairdresser. For those of you who’s hair is soaring to new heights and reaching out to the world in ways you’d rather it not, try these few tips
CONDITION!
No really, use a masque. A heavy one.
Even if you have finer hair, choose a conditioner one full notch up the ladder on the smoothing/moisturizing scale and apply to mid-shafts and ends of hair. Keeping it off your scalp will allow you to fight the fly-aways and still keep your volume. The first cause for this phenomenon is usually dryness in the hair. Not uncommon at all in the winter, even for those of us who treat our hair regularly.
Apply the masque to towel blotted hair.
FACT: your hair is like a sponge, the more full it is of water the less it can take in of the good stuff. Just wringing the water from your hair thoroughly before applying your daily conditioner can greatly improve results!
Comb through with a wide-tooth comb and leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes.
TIP: Multi-task your way to healthy hair! Wear a masque to the gym while you work out, or even better, take a spin through a steam room or sauna with it on! Just like the pores on your face, heat opens the hair and cold closes it. Adding heat will really step up your conditioners game!
Rinse with cool/lukewarm water, then style as usual!

PRODUCT!
Now ‘m not saying lacquer that hair in place like it’s 1985, but a little anti-humidity hairspray goes a LONG way!
Check out the Cuticle Polisher and Strengthening Control Hairspray from Pureology. These are my favorite for weightless control and shine, and the perfect amount of hold to tame those heaven-bound stands. Plus the addition of Keravis a vegetable-derived protein which strengthens your hair has you style, and it’s humidity resistant, so you won;t be swapping fly-aways for frizz!

LAST DITCH EFFORT…
If all else fails, a fresh dryer sheet run over your hair to eliminate static. I love the lavendar smell… and if it lingers in your clothes, maybe your locks will smell fresh as a flower all day long too!!

So the lovely Julia Anderson, winner of reality tv competition True Beauty, stopped by my chair recently, as she does every six to eight weeks. Only this time, she was in the mid-winter doldrums. She told me she was bored with her seasonably brunette hair, but knew her hair needed to rest up from the summery mauvey light pieces we ribbon through, and the drying effect lightener can have. She looked at me with a twinkle in her eye, and we knew excactly what to do. Julia went red. But she isn’t the only one!

Freshly off the creative wave that washed through Redken Symposium in Las Vegas last week, the trend is glowingly RED! In fact, the whole western world seems to have caught the cold weather blues and is craving some WARMTH! Just as the saying goes, “everyone can be a blonde,” the same stands for redheads. The most loathed and coveted shade in the color world is now in highest demand.
Dreary blondes and dull brunettes have come to my chair of late crying for some summer sunshine to warm and liven their limp locks. Lucky for them, the fashion world is seeing red!
Do you see it?

For those ready to REALLY rock it red, GO FOR IT! Semi-Psychadelic colors have never been more commonplace in the workplace. My dear friend Korie Su has never met a red she didn’t like, and over the years, she and I have really run the red spectrum… in laps! She nearly got me kicked out of beauty school years ago for using contraband product to achieve barely imaginable vibrancy. And she’s still pushing the envelope, but Ms. Korie Su is one of those girls that just WORKS IT. Kinda like one of my Fave redheads, Christina Hendricks. Which is why when Korie takes on this new red trend, her shade will be near-neon bliss. The inspiration for her next style is fresh off the Creative Color Surge stage at Redken Symposium this year. We’ll down play the poofy bit on top, a little, to suit her real life sex-atary office gig.

Some girls (myself among them!) may opt for a more natural look, a la Julianne Moore and Lauren Ambrose. See the new fashion forward take on the same lovely shade?

So color lively ladies! This is your big chance to tune into your own Lucille Ball dream! Go Bold! Go Gold! Be Bronzer with your lowlights than ever before. Say YES to the golden/coppery hues we’ve banished under cold toners! Your haircolor deserves illumination! Let your high-lights shine!!
Happy New year all!
What a lovely whirlwind 2010 was, sending me off with many blessings life, and espeicially, it seems, in my career! The next few posts are a backlog of my recent BOOM! moments. Hope you enjoy, and have a wonderful year!
“A new year is unfolding – like a blossom with petals curled tightly concealing the beauty within.”
